State and National Higher Education Coordinating Boards, U.S.

In the United States, at both the federal and state levels, the ultimate responsibility for the raising and appropriation of public funds, the development of laws, and ensuring accountability in public administration rests with elected officials. Nevertheless, daily governmental administration, governance, policy implementation, and coordination are carried out by government agencies and quasi-government agencies at both the federal and state levels. In this regard, higher education is no exception. This entry discusses these higher education agencies and offices, with a specific focus on state-level entities.
