Sponsored International Students

For the purposes of this entry, the term international students describes students who choose to enroll in higher education institutions outside of their countries of origin or citizenship. While many international students are self-funded or supported financially by their families, others receive scholarships or other types of funding from the higher education institutions where they enroll. In addition, some international students are financially sponsored fully or primarily by organizations external to their postsecondary institutions, such as government, company, or other organization. Within higher education, such students are known as sponsored international students or more succinctly as sponsored students. As discussed in this entry, there is a large variety, and constantly changing, sponsored international student landscape with many types of sponsoring organizations and programs.
