Minister of Basic Education and Minister of Higher Education and Training: South Africa

The Minister of Basic Education and Minister of Higher Education and Training in South Africa are ministers in the Cabinet of South Africa. These two leadership positions oversee the Department of Basic Education (Grade R to Grade 12) and the Department of Higher Education and Training, respectively. These roles are responsible for all educational programs throughout the country.

The positions of Minister of Basic Education and the Minister of Higher Education and Training were created on May 10, 2009, when newly elected President Jacob Zuma split the Department of Education into two departments. Both positions are appointed, assigned powers and functions, and may be dismissed by the President of South Africa.
