Latina/o Critical Race Theory

Latina/o critical race theory (LatCrit) invites the scholar to examine the systemic challenges that Latinas/os face in society through an intersectional perspective. Race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, social class, immigration status, language, and phenotype, among other markers of identity, affect Latina/o access to resources and opportunities in society and in higher education specifically.

Originally focused on theorizing and critiquing legal theory from the perspective of Latina/o lived experience, LatCrit has been applied within the study of education to center Latina/o experiences along the educational pipeline and disrupt dominant notions of formal educational practice based on a Black–White binary.
