International Relations and Higher Education

International higher education and research is changing at an unprecedented pace with the development of innovative global research networks; education/knowledge hubs; international, joint universities; regional centers of excellence; multisector partnerships; and new modes of academic mobility involving students, scholars, programs, providers, research, and policies. Contemporary diplomacy is equally dynamic with new nongovernmental actors, instruments, modes, and issues. The intersection of the changing worlds of international relations through contemporary diplomacy and international higher education and research is an important area for inquiry and analysis, given the diverse contributions that international higher education can make to international relations and, conversely, the potential impact, both positive and negative, that international relations and diplomacy can have on higher education and research.
