Music About Food

As a ubiquitous and fundamental part of our everyday and celebratory lives, food is an obvious topic for music. These references can be literally about food and foodways (food-related activities, practices, beliefs) or can be metaphors for other ideas and activities. Food may also appear as titles of songs, of performers, and even genres. Composers have structured musical pieces around food or used food references to evoke particular associations to a piece. Furthermore, music has historically accompanied a number of foodways activities, such as farming and harvesting, and is oftentimes part of the settings for purchasing or consuming food. Food is a subject in advertising jingles, as well as for parodies.
