Technologies in Humanities Education

All three of the main terms in the title of this entry have long and contentious histories. While there is some general understanding, there is no unanimity about the definitions of the terms technology, humanities, or education. Although some scholars explicate technology as a form of inquiry, or as a mode of being, technology is more commonly understood as some sort of tool including not only physical objects and systems, but also methods and institutions. The National Endowment for the Humanities specifies that the humanities include the study of languages, literature, philosophy, history, ethics, comparative religion, and humanistic aspects of the social sciences.
