It is common to find the terms disruptive innovation and disruptive technologies used interchangeably. Here both terms are considered distinct. Disruptive technologies are those technologies that have enabled disruption in specific markets or value networks. A disruptive innovation might result from an outstanding use of an existing technology. In generic terms, it refers to new ways of accomplishing something that drastically change the outcome or the process itself. This entry focuses on a few of the current innovations that are changing or hold great potential for changing the learning process or the learning experience in a significant fashion. These innovations are m-learning, open educational resources, flipped classrooms, massive open online courses (MOOCs), and adaptive learning.
