Design and Creation of Adaptive Educational Systems

An adaptive educational system refers to a system that tailors its behavior and functionalities to the educational needs (such as learning goals and interests) or the personal characteristics (such as learning styles and different prior knowledge) of an individual learner or a group of interconnected learners, as defined by Peter Brusilovsky and Eva Millán. Adaptive educational systems are argued to offer solutions toward overcoming the one-size-fits-all approach in traditional classroom-based teaching. The main advantages of adaptive educational systems are that learners are provided with learning experiences that are tailored to their particular educational needs, personal characteristics, and context with the goal of maximizing their engagement, motivation, learning speed, and learning effectiveness.
