Blogs as a Communication Tool

Blogging is a form of communication that can be compared to journal writing. The weblog, or “blog,” emerged as a Web-based tool in the late 1990s. The use and prominence of blogs has increased tremendously over the last decade. Blogs are used for many distinct purposes, not the least of which is for teaching and learning activities. This entry first discusses the definitions and origins of blogs and blogging. It then describes the features of blogs and how blogs are applied as a communication tool in learning environments.
