Reproductive Health Services

Reproductive health services include the $445 million surrogacy market, the nearly $400 million spent on abortions in the United States (with much higher figures globally), and the estimated $2.37 billion spent on family planning in 2010 in the United States. Discussion of reproductive health services requires a prior conceptualization of what reproductive health is. Reproductive health refers to the biological, psychological, and social aspects of female and male sexual and reproductive behavior. The International Conference on Population and Development held in 1994 in Cairo, Egypt, defined reproductive health as a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity, in all matters relating to the reproductive system and to its functions and process.
