Remedial Education

Remedial education is an instructional program designed to assist students who have fallen behind in their studies to achieve the expected level of core academic skills, especially reading, writing, and mathematics. Students may underperform academically for a number of reasons. Some students who have transferred from other schools or other countries may confront educational interruption and cultural discontinuity that would, in large part, result in performance gaps. Other students with diverse learning needs may need alternative instruction methods to accommodate their different learning styles. In addition, researchers have indicated that low socioeconomic status compromises the educational outcome of children and adolescents.
