The number of women involved in the criminal justice system in the United States has grown exponentially over the past several decades. With this increase, key dilemmas and questions have shaped practices of assessment, treatment, and management for this population of women. Given that a majority of these practices are based on male offenders, attention has been given to exploring gender differences in offender populations and the subsequent role of gender in these practices.
