The word rehabilitation is used in a number of contexts and has several different but interrelated meanings. In health services, it denotes a process of being restored to normal functioning after an injury or period of illness. In addiction services, it entails being empowered to escape the destructive use of a substance and regain control over one’s life. In the armed forces, it means having rest and regeneration after a period of combat or other hazardous duty.
