Physical and Mental Health Treatment

When working with prison inmates, mental health professionals often take a holistic and multidisciplinary team approach, assisting medical personnel with the appropriate assessment and treatment of physical and mental health concerns that will lead to effective clinical interventions. Consistent with a biopsychosocial model, it is important for such professionals to be aware of the unique aspects of inmates’ psychological makeup, social history, history of illnesses, and their current medical conditions in order to treat their mental and physical health needs.
