Offender Treatment Attrition and Retention, Responsivity Issues

The issue of offender treatment attrition (i.e., noncompletion) and retention (i.e., continuation), including the role of responsivity (i.e., the adaptation of offender treatment services to fit the unique individual needs of client), is complicated. It is known that high-risk offenders are more likely to drop out, but paradoxically, they are also the group most in need of services. Therefore, by having knowledge of predictors of attrition as well as knowing how to respond to unique client needs, service providers could retain clients in treatment, providing them with a greater chance to benefit from services.
