Publics are a collective of individuals who may share similar values, beliefs, characteristics, and behaviors and who are affected in similar ways around an issue or organization. They exist because of their interaction with the organization, its messages, and messages about the organization. Publics are the primary groups with whom organizations are able to interact and communicate. The fields of political science and history have popularized the term publics, and marketing and public relations have frequently used this term to define a group of people who may be affected by a campaign, a message by or about an organization, or another type of effort by an organization.
