In the field of early childhood education (ECE), there are many employment possibilities. An individual might work directly with children in a classroom or as an administrator. Many of the positions in the classroom have titles that are used interchangeably depending on the region, program, or preference of the individual. For example, sometimes the term teacher is used to refer to the person who is responsible for classroom activities and routines while other times the term caregiver is used. Administrators could include midlevel managers, senior management, curriculum specialists, and training specialists. Because there are a variety of positions that could be held, when early childhood professionals talk about the professional development of workers at all levels they use the terminology workforce development.
