Storytelling and Story Acting

Storytelling occurs in a variety of forms, one of which is early childhood classroom communities. Vivian Paley’s storytelling and story acting process is used in classrooms across the nation and internationally to support young children’s social, emotional, cognitive, language, and literacy development. The storytelling and story acting processes are often integrated into the school curriculum. The only supplies necessary for this activity are paper and pencil. Storytelling is voluntary and self-initiated; children choose to tell a story during center or choice time, and narrate any kind of story they prefer, with any type and number of characters, pretend or real.
