Kindergarten is a place for young children to socialize with other children and gain an understanding of school routine, and kindergarten is a place where young children learn. The kindergarten environment provides the stage where this all happens. The teacher is the director who, along with the children, creates a place for learning and a place for socializing. The kindergarten environment is a powerful and important teaching and learning tool. If the kindergarten environment is thoughtfully designed and structured, much of the work of the kindergarten teacher is done even before the children arrive.
