Data reduction is a communication process used by science communicators (e.g., researchers, reporters, writers, lobbyists) for translating reports of raw scientific research data into easily interpreted and revealing numerical, narrative, and visual descriptions that can help to make the research findings understandable to a broad range of audiences. Research findings are regularly reported to various professional and lay audiences via a range of diverse communication channels, including in research reports that may be published in scientific journals, conference papers that may be presented at scholarly meetings, as well as in books, magazines and newspapers, and on websites.
