Conflict, Mediation, and Negotiation

Communication is a critical component of conflict, mediation, and negotiation. Communication researchers who study conflict, mediation, and negotiation are concerned with how communication influences, and is influenced by, conflict and conflict resolution interactions. Conflict is studied from many different perspectives, either as a catalyst, contributor, or outcome of communication. Conflict, mediation, and negotiation are studied in a variety of domains, including within interpersonal, organizational, community, and international and intercultural contexts. From these perspectives and within these domains, scholars typically frame their research in a few key theories and examine their research questions through a variety of basic and applied research methodologies.
