Children and Art

The arts are an essential tool for helping us understand the human experience. The arts, especially storytelling and play, are universal tools for children’s meaning making. The arts enable children to understand different perspectives and experiences, generating empathy and solidarity. Anna Stetsenko argued that creativity is an integral aspect of the human condition, that creativity is central in every moment of knowing, becoming, and acting. For these reasons and many more, scholars have always been interested in defining and operationalizing creativity so that we might be better able to foster it, teach it, and be it.
