Montessori Schools

It is estimated that Montessori pedagogy is currently practiced in more than 20,000 schools in over 100 different countries. The first Montessori schools were established in Italy, each of which was called “Children’s House” (Casa Dei Bambini). Maria Montessori’s (1878–1852) concept was launched in 1906 and from 1907 onward a number of schools were established in Italy. An intensive dissemination through courses, lectures, participation in congresses and written texts led to Montessori schools being established in different parts of the world. In the United States, for example, interest grew rapidly and by 1913 some 100 Montessori schools had been established. The schools that exist today are either public or private.
