Life Mode Interview

The guiding idea behind conducting a life mode interview is to set up a conversation that will enable interviewees to share what goes on in their daily lives and how they think and feel about these events. The overarching prompt is simply: “Can you tell me about your life as it is running just now—from one day to another?” Establishing a shared focus of attention in the here and now also enables connections to relevant events from the past as well as possible notions about the future. Preferably, the interviewees should be able to bring forward what matters to them in their lives and to do so in ways that the interviewer may be able to understand and follow up with further questioning.
