Psychological testing and assessment experts acknowledge validity as the most important characteristic in testing. Validity is one of the fundamentally evidence-based components of psychology. For testing to be valid, there must be evidence to support the outcome. Validity is the ability to use the results of a test appropriately and interpret the results accurately. Tests produce results, and the interpretations of these scores must also be validated. Tests are not intrinsically valid; rather, test scores or results are valid to the extent that there is evidence to support a given use during a given time period with a particular, well-defined population.
