Self-Management and Recovery Training (SMART) for Addiction

Self-Management and Recovery Training (SMART Recovery) is an abstinence-based, nonprofit organization that offers no-cost addiction recovery support groups that exist as an alternative to traditional twelve-step recovery programs (e.g., Alcoholic Anonymous). Whereas traditional twelve-step recovery programs espouse a spiritual awakening model of recovery, SMART Recovery claims to have a self-empowerment-based curriculum. This curriculum includes skills training and mutual support.
