Joint Program in Survey Methodology (JPSM)

The Joint Program in Survey Methodology (JPSM) is the oldest and largest program in the world offering graduate degrees in survey methodology. Located at the University of Maryland, JPSM was established in 1993 following the award of a grant from the National Science Foundation. JPSM was created to strengthen the federal statistical system by providing advanced training in survey statistics and methodology. It is a partnership between the federal government—specifically, the Inter-agency Council on Statistical Policy (ICSP)—and a consortium of the University of Maryland, the University of Michigan, and Westat. An innovative feature of the program is its sharing of classes across universities via video systems.
