College on Problems of Drug Dependence

The College on Problems of Drug Dependence (CPDD), an interdisciplinary research society, is the oldest organization in the United States to address problems of drug abuse and dependence. Formerly called the Committee on Problems of Drug Dependence, it began in 1929 as part of the National Academy of Sciences before becoming an independent organization in 1976. In 1991, the name was changed from Committee to College, and it evolved into a member organization that includes scientists in a wide range of fields from biology, chemistry, and preclinical pharmacology to psychology, anthropology, and epidemiology.
