Twelve-Step Recovery Programs

Twelve-Step fellowships are commonly recognized and widely attended groups for recovery and support. Involvement in Twelve-Step groups such as Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, and Cocaine Anonymous is correlated positively with both retention in treatment and abstinence. Most Twelve-Step groups introduce a spiritual focus toward life, espouse principles of conduct, and provide ongoing support for as long as an individual wishes to participate.

The Twelve Steps have been described as a way of life and are applied in a variety of recovery fellowships. Behavioral issues such as compulsion or addiction to sex, food, and gambling have been found to be resolved, or at least placed in remission, with the daily application of the Twelve Steps in such fellowships as Sexual Compulsives Anonymous, Overeaters Anonymous, Gamblers Anonymous, and ...
