Clinical Trials outside U.S.: Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis

AMYOTROPHIC LATERAL SCLEROSIS (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig's disease, is a progressive disorder of motor dysfunction that leads to paralysis and eventually death. A few published and unpublished clinical trials around the world have been begun using stem cells in humans and are in their very early stages. With all the excitement and possibilities stem cells have to offer as a therapy, it is critical that scientists and clinicians are cautious, plan rigorous studies, and most important, focus on key laboratory experiments that will provide answers to the many challenges that still face this therapeutic approach.
