RUTGERS UNIVERSITY (also known as the State University of New Jersey) is a public university with campuses in three cities in New Jersey: Newark, New Brunswick/Piscataway, and Camden. Rutgers was founded in 1766 and today enrolls over 50,000 students and offers majors in over 100 fields. The medical school associated with Rutgers opened in 1961 as the Rutgers Medical School. In 1967, it was combined with the New Jersey Medical School in Newark and the New Jersey Medical School to form the College of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, which was renamed the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ) in 1986.
