PROSTATE IS A male sex accessory organ surrounding the urethra below the urinary bladder that is located in the pelvic floor. The prostate stores and secretes a clear, slightly alkaline fluid to form semen with spermatozoa during ejaculation. The prostate fluid helps maintain the activity and life span of sperm. Male hormone testosterone is required for development and proper function of prostate.

The human prostate is divided into the peripheral zone, the central zone and the transitional zone.
