Wrist Injuries

The wrist is frequently injured in sports. Sprains are the most common wrist injury, accounting for 20% to 50% of injuries, followed by contusions (15%30%) and fractures (5%35%). Distal radius fractures are the most common fracture seen in emergency departments; scaphoid fractures are the most common carpal fracture. Acute injuries of the wrist occur in sports such as football, hockey, and snowboarding, most often from falls.
