Shoulder Instability

Glenohumeral instability is a common shoulder disorder, particularly among young athletes. Traditionally, shoulder instability has been divided into two types: those that were initially caused by a traumatic event and those associated with generalized ligamentous laxity.

Peak incidences of traumatic shoulder dislocation occur in a bimodal distribution. Men are at the highest risk of dislocation between 20 and 30 years of age, whereas women more frequently experience dislocation of the shoulder between 61 and 80 years of age.
