Sailing and yacht racing is a long-standing competitive sport. The America's Cup, first won in 1851, is the oldest active international sports trophy. The few studies that document medical concerns of sailing involve highly experienced sailors. Injuries and illnesses occur with similar frequency to other noncontact sports.
