The term plyometrics derives from the Greek roots plio, meaning “more,” and metr, meaning “measure.” Plyometrics, also known as the stretch-shortening cycle (SSC), is a form of conditioning for athletic improvement as well as for activities of daily living where quick and explosive movement is used in a progressive, sequenced manner to increase the acceleration and deceleration of an object or oneself.
