Peroneal Strain

The peroneus muscles work together to turn the foot outward (evert) and also provide stability. These muscles are necessary for side-to-side movements and are commonly injured in sports such as tennis, basketball, running, and dance. Injury to the peroneal tendons is a relatively underdiagnosed injury and not an uncommon source of lateral ankle pain. The true incidence is not known.
