HIV and the Athlete

The human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) pandemic continues to extend worldwide and as such may have an impact on individuals in all walks of life, including athletes. This entry discusses the nature of HIV disease and its recent epidemiology. There follows a description of how HIV disease might present and become diagnosed in an infected athlete.
