Fitness training, or athletic training, can be defined as a systematic way of improving one's fitness for a desired benefit (e.g., one's health, one's sports performance). Training is typically conducted in two arenas—aerobic fitness and muscle strength and endurance—and operates around several different principles, including the overload-fatigue-recovery-adaptation cycle, reversibility, and specificity.
