Cyst, Ganglion

A ganglion cyst is a small, fluid-filled sac (usually less than 2 centimeters) that is located near a joint capsule or tendon sheath (the covering surrounding a tendon). It is thought to arise from a herniation of synovial (joint) tissue from the joint or tendon sheath. Experts do not know the exact cause of ganglions but believe that they may be associated with some type of trauma or tissue irritation.
