Colombia is the fifth-largest Latin American country, with an area of 439,733 square miles. It is located in the northwestern corner of South America and is bordered by Panama to the northwest, Venezuela and Brazil to the east, and Peru and Ecuador to the southwest. The population of Colombia has grown dramatically over the past four decades, according to the World Bank, from 11.5 million in 1951 to an estimated 46 million in 2010, with more than 60 percent of the population between the ages of 15 and 64.
