Chile

The Republic of Chile is the third-largest country in South America. It shares its northern border with Peru, and its eastern border with Argentina is the third-largest international border in the world (3,200 miles long). In July 2012, its population was estimated at 17.07 million. Chile is a country of enormous geographical diversity. Large copper and nitrate deposits are among the nation's most important minerals and constitute a significant proportion of the country's economy. Agriculture is predominantly located in the central region of the country. Roughly 35 percent of the total population lives in the nation's capital city of Santiago and 86 percent lives in urban settings.
