Wyoming had a 2010 population of 563,626. The student body is over 80 percent Caucasian. The largest minority groups are Hispanic and Native Americans. A wide range of educational levels is available, from preschool through higher and adult education. The state superintendent of public instruction directs the public education system. The State Board of Education establishes educational policies and local school boards oversee their individual districts. Student assessment measures include the Wyoming Content and Performance Standards and the Proficiency Assessment for Wyoming Students (PAWS).
