The Republic of Turkey, the only country in the world lying partly in Europe and partly in Asia, has an area of 300,868 square miles (779,452 square kilometers). Turkey's neighbors in the European part (Thrace) are Bulgaria and Greece; on the eastern side (Anatolia) are Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Iran; and to the south lie Iraq and Syria. Turkey is surrounded by seas on three sides. To the west lies the Aegean Sea, to the north, the Black Sea, and to the south, the Mediterranean Sea.
