Teen pregnancy and its impact on educational opportunities and achievement of adolescents is an ongoing challenge faced both in the United States and internationally. Teens who become pregnant are at greater risk for health complications and face a host of challenges to remaining in school and achieving educational milestones. Because of human biology, teen pregnancy and its impact on education is overwhelmingly an issue faced by teen girls, and in the United States, these girls are overwhelmingly from lower socioeconomic and/or minority backgrounds. Factors that influence teen birthrates are dynamic and hotly debated, as is the appropriate response by the education sector to educating teens who become pregnant and teen mothers.
