Founded on June 6, 1523, Sweden (officially the Kingdom of Sweden) is located in northern Europe and has an area of 173,860 square miles (450,295 square kilometers). It had an estimated population of 9.1 million in July 2012. Sweden is comprised of indigenous groups with Finnish, Sami, and other minorities that include Yugoslavs, Danes, Norwegians, Greeks, and Turks.
