Known officially as the Land of Enchantment, New Mexico has a unique culture that combines elements of its Anglo, Native American, and Hispanic cultures. The state, which was historically referred to as the Land of the Heart's Desire because of the vast opportunities it offered, is also known as the Cactus State. Covering a land area of 121,598 square miles, New Mexico is the fifth-largest state in the United States. New Mexico shares both a southern and an eastern border with Texas, with Oklahoma making up the remainder of the eastern border. Colorado lies to the north and Arizona to the west.
