Lareau, Annette

Annette Lareau is a qualitative sociologist who studies the relationships among parents, children, and schools. Her work examines both social class and racial differences among parents. She is currently the Stanley I. Sheerr Professor of Sociology at the University of Pennsylvania. She previously taught at Southern Illinois University (Carbondale), Temple University, and the University of Maryland, College Park.

In addition to many articles, book chapters, and edited books, she has authored two influential books in the sociology of education: Home Advantage and Unequal Childhoods. Her ethnographic work has helped sociologists to understand how social class plays a role in the ways that parents interact with their children and schools.
