The term ethics refers to a process of gaining knowledge about making life choices. Many educators believe that all students, even elementary students, can benefit from processes of ethical learning. By elementary school, children are able to look at life in a self-conscious manner and to ponder issues of right and wrong. Some believe that young children are highly interested in ethical issues and need to have that interest affirmed through discussions of written narratives, as well as through oral narratives. By high school and college, students learn ethics largely through civic education, including service-learning courses.
